As educators continue to work to align literacy instruction with the Science of Reading, we are often faced with the challenge of moving away from long-standing practices that do not reflect current research. This session provides a practical framework for identifying and replacing those non-aligned practices through the lens of De-Implementation Science. Participants will deepen their understanding of the Science of Reading and its evidence base, examine instructional approaches that run counter to effective reading instruction, and learn strategies to thoughtfully discontinue them. With guided planning, participants will begin developing a de-implementation plan that transitions classrooms and schools toward evidence-based practices that better support student literacy outcomes.
