DESCRIPTION: During the planning phase, teams focus on building the infrastructure necessary to support MTSS implementation. Activities at this phase include building your MTSS team, identifying priorities, establishing a vision for MTSS and others. This professional learning series focuses on building staff buy-in and staff capacity to implement the 5 Essential Components:
Assessment
Data-Based Decision Making
Multi-Tier Instruction
Infrastructure & Support Mechanisms
Fidelity & Evaluation.
OBJECTIVES:
Understand the 5 essential components of NDMTSS
Establish leadership roles and responsibilities
Understand the Why of NDMTSS through consensus building and teaming structures
Data-based decision making at all tiers using a researched problem-solving model
Develop strategies for solving problems at each tier
Define effective teaching strategies at all tiers
Increase awareness of evidence-based interventions and curriculum resources
Understand a comprehensive assessment system to gather data
Understand essential components of effective implementation
Create communication plans for all stakeholders
DELIVERY: This professional learning series will be offered as a combination of 7 full-day face-to-face sessions and 4 90-minute online coaching calls throughout the school year.
PRESENTER: Wayne Callender (national RTI consultant at Partners for Learning)
AUDIENCE: School leadership teams of 6-10 individuals; including Administrators (REQUIRED to have at least one); special educators; instructional coaches; MTSS coordinators; lead teachers; counselors.
CREDIT: 3 graduate continuing education credits available for application through VCSU after participating in all required sessions/activities and submitting the application fee.
