This event, formerly known as the ELA Curriculum Fair, introduces participants to characteristics of high quality instructional ELA materials and provides an opportunity for exploration of multiple curricular resources. This event includes the following activities:
Asynchronous review of an informational video related to preparing for ELA resource adoption. (This must be watched prior to attending the live event), AND;
Participation in a live face-to-face training and exploration of resources.
Activity 1: Pre-Recorded Informational Video
Participants will access a pre-recorded informational video that introduces them to a number of resources to prepare for ELA resource adoption. During the recording, participants will understand the SoR legislation and access the NDSoR Curriculum Evaluation Guide. The recording will walk participants through each section of the guide.
Section 1: Defining the Science of Reading
Section 2: Leading and Making Curriculum Materials Decisions
Section 3: Use of an Evaluation Tool
NOTE: Participants who register will receive the following resources:
The Curriculum Guidance Document, Curriculum Audit Tool, and Curriculum Evaluation Guidelines.
Activity 2: Live Training and Exploration of Resources
Participants will examine different examples of curricular resources that align to each strand of Scarborough's Reading Rope, including fluency and writing. Then, participants will have an opportunity to review some of those materials. We will discuss implementation considerations and then educators will have the opportunity to review materials from the NDSOR curriculum guidance document.
Optional ADD ON: Implementation Support Planning
You’ve selected an ELA curriculum resource. Now what?!? Engage in virtual, ongoing technical assistance to guide your school team through creating the ideal conditions for effective implementation, including, but not limited to, advancing a communications plan; contacting vendors; selecting and planning proper professional learning; and schedule non-negotiables.
Optional ADD ON: Standards Mapping
Matching curricular resources with ND ELA content standards doesn’t have to be daunting! Mapping curricular resources with content standards can help educators and school teams select a curricular resource or better understand necessary supplemental materials. This ADD ON may occur as a part of selecting a curricular resource (prior to a decision/purchase) or as an action step in response to making a selection.
