Features of Effective Math Instruction Workshop is for teachers, school administrators, instructional coaches, and ND REA staff. Participants will explore the following elements of research-based mathematics instruction:  

• explicit, systematic instruction with modeling; 
• multiple opportunities to practice and respond plus immediate and corrective feedback; 
• spiraling cumulative mixed review and procedural skill and fluency 
• instructional analysis of current math textbook using Textbook Effective Math Instruction Scoring Rubric

Following the study of these elements, participants will analyze their current math textbook using the Textbook Effective Math Instruction Scoring Rubric to determine current curriculum’s strengths and weaknesses and apply knowledge gained in the Features of Effective Math Instruction workshop to address identified weaknesses in textbook.

Objectives

• Investigate features of effective instruction through research and practice
• Examine relationships between effective teaching and learning
• Connect the features of effective instruction to the MTSS framework
• Analyze current math textbook/resources for features of effective instruction
• Construct plans to strengthen math instruction in our classrooms
