NOTE:  Please complete the first 2 online courses PRIOR to the first online check-in in February (approximately 1 hour per module).

In collaborating with the Department of Public Instruction, SEEC and NESC are excited to introduce our latest professional learning opportunity - Master Teacher Paraeducator Online Training! 

The training is designed to support North Dakota schools' paraeducators and tutors in the acquisition and application of instructional practices deemed effective for increasing K-12 students' learning outcomes. We have partnered with The Master Teacher, a company that has developed an online training platform that includes 148 self-paced courses. Participants will have free access to all courses for one year. 

Participants will complete designated courses prior to engaging in 2 scheduled synchronous, virtual connections in which they will collaborate with others in the field to: 

  • Synthesize their learning 
  • Ask questions
  • Provide insight into their work 
  • Practice their new learning and skills in a safe and inclusive setting

Required Courses from The Master Teacher Paraeducator Online Training:

1. Mathematics: Understanding the Basic Skills (Course 135)

  • Review basic mathematical concepts
  • Review basic mathematical terminology such as sum, difference, product, quotient, dividend, and divisor
  • Review the basic mathematical operations of whole numbers
  • Review the proper order for mathematical operations
  • Recognize and interpret mathematical symbols

2. Mathematics: Fractions, Decimals, and Percentages (Course 136)

  • Review fractions, improper fractions, and mixed numbers
  • Study the basic mathematical operations of fractions
  • Review the basic mathematical operations of decimals
  • Study the computation of percentages

3. Basic Algebra (Course 137)

  • Review algebraic terminology
  • Evaluate simple algebraic expressions
  • Review the methods for solving for a single, unknown variable
  • Review the basic concepts of exponents

4. Basic Geometry (Course 138)

  • Review basic geometric terminology
  • Identify basic geometric figures
  • Practice the formula for computing perimeter
  • Practice the formula for computing area
  • Practice the formula for computing volume for basic geometric shapes
  • Practice plotting ordered pairs on a coordinate grid

5. Basic Data Analysis (Course 139)

  • Review the uses and terminology of statistics
  • Practice the process of interpreting bar and circle graphs


DELIVERY: This multi-day training will be delivered VIRTUALLY.  Participants will complete 5 online courses asynchronously AND participate in 2 synchronous online check-in throughout the semester (one after Courses 1 and 2 and one after Courses 3, 4, and 5).

AUDIENCES: Afterschool Program Staff, Paraprofessionals, and Substitute Teachers 

CREDIT:  This training will count toward 6 hours of Cafeteria Credit (for those eligible for Graduate Credit).
